If you are a physician between jobs, obtaining disability insurance may be difficult. Applying for disability insurance requires income verification. Therefore, if you may need to wait until you have obtained a new contract or have a payment track record of at least six months.

If you are in your first two years after training, you may automatically qualify for up to $7500/month benefit without any income verification. Therefore if you are between jobs or are doing part time work, you would be eligible.

If you are currently working and are considering leaving your job, now would be a good time to consider purchasing a disability insurance policy. Once you have your policy and continue to pay premiums, you are not required to be working full time to receive benefits.
