Recently I had a client apply for disablity insurance. We submitted the application, the client completed the online health questionnaire and the company requested medical records.
A week later, the client was in a bad car accident and injured their leg that required surgery. They called me in a panic asking how this would impact the application.
If you have a change in health during the underwriting process, chances are the company will have access to this information. When the company requests medical records, the doctor will provide the most recent information.
If for some reason it slips through the cracks, the client will need to disclose the change in health at the time of policy delivery. When the policy is delivered, the client must answer a series of questions pertaining to health. If there was a change in health it needs to be disclosed. The company will then likely request further medical records.
