Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) face unique professional risks. Because their ability to earn income depends on performing highly specialized clinical procedures, protecting that income with disability insurance is an important part of financial planning.

CRNA disability coverage is usually obtained through association programs or group plans. However, as their careers progress, some discover that individual disability insurance policies can offer stronger definitions of disability, greater portability, and long-term rate stability.

Several recent CRNA clients shared their experiences after working with Set for Life Insurance to review their disability coverage options.

Replacing Association Coverage with a Long-Term Individual Policy

One CRNA client originally carried disability coverage through the AANA association plan. While the policy initially appeared affordable, the premiums increased significantly after turning 40.

After reviewing her options, she chose to replace the association coverage with an individual disability policy.

“I carried an individual disability policy with the AANA association plan, but when I turned 40 my rates skyrocketed. Thankfully I found Set for Life Insurance. They shopped around and found the best coverage available for me as a CRNA. They also helped establish a hospital discount that saved me a tremendous amount of money. With the locked-in rate, I will pay significantly less over the next 20 years than I would have with the AANA plan.”

Simplifying the Insurance Process

Another CRNA noted that the disability insurance application process can feel complicated when navigating it alone. After comparing options online, he ultimately chose to work with an experienced broker.

“Thank you to Set for Life Insurance for making the process as painless as possible. After shopping around all over the internet, I’m glad I finally found your firm. You made the process simple and professional, and you exceeded my expectations.”

Increasing Coverage While Reducing Cost

Disability insurance reviews can also reveal opportunities to improve coverage levels.

One CRNA client already had an individual policy but discovered that a new policy structure and available discounts could significantly improve the protection.

“Even though I already had a disability policy, I was able to double my coverage at roughly half the cost of what I was paying previously because of the discounts Set for Life Insurance arranged. I would recommend them to any CRNA looking for disability insurance.”

Why CRNAs Often Review Their Disability Insurance

CRNAs frequently review their disability coverage when:

  • transitioning between employers
  • moving from group coverage to individual policies
  • qualifying for hospital-based discounts
  • increasing their income and needing higher benefit limits

Because disability insurance policies vary significantly between carriers, a comparison of definitions of disability, benefit structures, and long-term pricing can often reveal opportunities to strengthen coverage.
