GSI

The Guaranteed Standard Issue Program (GSI) Disability Insurance Program offered is a valuable program that provides income protection for residents and fellows without requiring medical underwriting.

This means that individuals with pre-existing medical conditions can obtain coverage up to $7,500 of monthly benefit (graduating residents and fellows) or up to $5000/month for all other residents and fellows, without undergoing the traditional medical underwriting process. There are no medical questions asked. The policy is a personally-owned individual disability insurance policy that is portable, meaning you may take it with you throughout your career. You will have the ability to increase it up to $15,000/month in the future without any medical questions.

Please note that if you apply for an individual policy elsewhere and are rated or declined, the GSI offer is no longer available to you. It is critical that you apply for the GSI FIRST before applying elsewhere.

Guaranteed Standard Issue (GSI) Disability Insurance for Medical Residents

At Set for Life Insurance, we’re proud to be one of the few select brokerages authorized to offer Guaranteed Standard Issue (GSI) disability insurance for medical residents and fellows. This unique opportunity provides critical protection for your future income with simplified and accessible coverage.

Why GSI Insurance Matters

As a medical resident, your time is limited, but protecting your income is essential. GSI policies make this easy, allowing you to purchase an own-occupation disability insurance policy at discounted rates with NO medical questions or exams. This coverage is designed for medical residents and fellows who want financial security without the complexity of traditional underwriting.

Key Benefits of GSI Insurance:

  • Guaranteed Acceptance: Qualify without the need for medical exams or questionnaires, saving you time and hassle.
  • Own-Occupation Protection: Specifically crafted for physicians, GSI policies cover you if a disability prevents you from working in your specialty, even if you can work in another field.
  • Discounted Premiums: Enjoy significant savings exclusive to medical residents and fellows. These discounts apply to initial and future increases.
  • Flexible Coverage Amounts: Purchase up to $5,000 per month as a current resident, and up to $7,500 per month as a graduating resident.
  • Increase Options: Policies allow you to purchase up to $15,000/month in the future without further medical questions.
  • No Risk of Rejection: Applying with Set for Life ensures you access GSI rates. If you apply elsewhere first and get rated or declined, you are no longer eligible for GSI. Contact us first to secure your benefits.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for GSI coverage, you must apply before your graduation. Graduating residents gain access to a higher monthly benefit and are encouraged to apply as early as possible to lock in rates and secure their coverage.
