At Set for Life Insurance, we have helped clients with their individual disability insurance planning needs since 1993. In 2000 we started our first website and have been working with clients across the country online ever since. We have constantly adapted and updated our services ever since to keep up with this ever changing world.

Based on our experience, here is some advice to people shopping for individual disability insurance online:

First, let’s start with the GOOD. There are a lot of good websites online with information about disability insurance as well as some quality producers. The best sites are those that disclose who they are and give credence to who they are and what makes them experts. The GOOD sites disclose clearly who they are by name.

The BAD. I am not one to criticize my competition or others out there. However, be cautious of people making claims that may not be true or if someone seems very inexperienced or pushy. Anyone can proclaim themselves as an expert. But an expert should disclose their credentials explaining why/how they are an expert.

Then there comes the UGLY. These are the calls that I receive from people shopping around and someone is telling them they need to purchase right away or else! This doesn’t just happen online. I get a lot of calls from medical students, resident physicians and dental students around country who are concerned because they were told that they must sign up for their coverage before they graduate or else…

Purchasing an individual disability insurance policy is an important process that should be taken seriously. Make sure you know who you are working with. Here are some questions to find out BEFORE you work with someone:

What is their background?
What is their education?
How long have they been in the business?
Are they an independent broker or work for one company?
If they are trying to pressure me, why? What is their motivation?
Do they have my best interest at heart?
Can they provide a reference to an existing client?
How are they rated by the Better Business Bureau?

Set for Life Insurance is proud that we provide information about our expertise and background and get to know each of our clients before we proceed with a recommendation.  It’s not just transactional to us. We truly care and look out for our clients’ best interests.
