Will your disability insurance cover you if you travel abroad?

The answer is: It depends.

The travel restriction would most likely occur if you are planning to travel abroad prior to applying for coverage. Most places are covered but check with the company about the restricted travel list.

If you purchased a policy several years ago and are planning to travel abroad, the policy is already in force and you would be covered if you became sick or injured while abroad.

If you are planning to live abroad, check your policy. Some policies will not cover you if you are living abroad whereas some companies will cover you if you move back to the US within 6 months or a 1 year period of time.
