How did this happen?

Since 1993, Set for Life has worked with their clients to set up these discounts at hospitals, employers and associations. Once the discounts are in place, subsequent people affiliated with these employers are eligible for the discounts if they, too, submit their applications through Set for Life Insurance.

Who benefits from the discounts the most?

For the unisex rates, the women come out with the biggest advantage. Since women on average spend 40% or more on their disability insurance than their male counterparts, the unisex rates equalize the premiums. On top of that, there is a 20% employer discount. This nets them close to 60% off of the non discounted rate.

Set for Life Insurance has discounts available at most medical residency programs around the country. In order to qualify for the discount, you must apply for coverage while employed at the discounted employer and the application must be submitted through the Set for Life Insurance office.
